Add page numbers to a PDF
A contract, a bundle of exhibits or a scanned report that arrived without page numbers — numbered in one pass, as real text in the PDF, on rotated pages too.
- Runs entirely in your browser

Loading the tool…
How it works
- Drop one or more PDFs.
- Pick a format (or write your own with {n}, {total}, {bates}, {file} and {date}), the position and the size. Set the starting number, and how many first pages to leave unnumbered.
- Press “Add page numbers”. One file downloads directly; several come as a ZIP. Tick “continue across files” for one Bates sequence over the whole batch.
Why nothing is uploaded
Every operation on this page is done by code running inside your browser tab, using the same engine that renders web pages. The file is read from disk into your tab’s memory, transformed there, and written back out as a download. It is never sent anywhere — not to us, not to a third party.
Verify it yourself
- Open your browser’s developer tools (F12) and select the Network tab.
- Load your file and run the tool.
- The only requests you will see fetch the tool’s own code — and, for a few heavy tools, their open-source engine (also from this site) or an AI model from Hugging Face — plus one small page-view ping to loreatec.jp (page address and title, nothing more). None of them carry your file.
Frequently asked questions
How do I leave the cover page without a number?
Set “Leave the first pages unnumbered” to 1. The first numbered page gets the starting number: keep it at 1 for “1” on page two, or set 2 if the cover should count but not show its number.
What is a Bates number?
A prefix plus a zero-padded running number — ABC-000001, ABC-000002… — stamped on every page of a document set so that each page can be cited exactly, as law firms and courts do with evidence. Choose the {bates} format, set the prefix and digits, and tick “continue across files” so the sequence runs through every file in the batch.
Do rotated pages work?
Yes. The position is worked out on the page as you see it, so a landscape page saved as a rotated portrait still gets its number at the bottom, the right way up, and pages whose visible area is cropped get it inside that area.
Is the number real text?
Yes, for Latin characters: it is set in Helvetica, one of the fonts built into every PDF reader, so it can be searched and copied. A format with Japanese or other scripts, or a Japanese file name, is stamped as a sharp image instead, because those built-in fonts cannot encode it.
